On March 1, 2009 the venue officially became known as Etihad Stadium and in August 2012 the partnership was extended for five more years until 2019.
Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. It commenced daily non-stop flights from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi and beyond from March 30, 2009.
From the Middle East, Etihad Airways now flies to 103 passenger and cargo destinations in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Americas as well as the Middle East. In 2013 the airline carried 11.5 million passengers and was voted the World’s Leading Airline at the World Travel Awards.
In addition to Etihad Stadium, Etihad Airways’ sponsorship portfolio includes Melbourne City FC, Etihad Stadium in Manchester, Manchester City Football Club, the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, and the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The airline has a fleet of 102 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, and more than 220 aircraft on firm order, including 71 Boeing 787s, 25 Boeing 777-X, 62 Airbus A350s and 10 Airbus A380s. Etihad Airways holds equity investments in airberlin, Air Seychelles, Virgin Australia, Aer Lingus, Air Serbia and Jet Airways.
