For the second year in succession Etihad Stadium will proudly showcase some of Australia’s best under age football talent on the final day of the NAB U18 Championships to be held on Wednesday, July 1.
This year’s final day of the Championships tagged ‘Where Stars Are Born’ will consist of four games - the opening bounce will be at 9.35am when Tasmania takes on the New South Wales/ACT team.
Queensland meets the Northern Territory at 11.40am then Vic Country takes on West Australia at 1.45pm, and the day will culminate with Vic Metro and South Australia meeting at 3.50pm.
Almost 5,000 fans attended last year’s final round of matches, which eventually saw Vic Metro take the Under 18 title with a 29-point victory over Western Australia.
Already talent from last year series, including Carlton’s Mitch Robinson, Collingwood’s Steele Sidebottom and Brisbane’s Daniel Rich have become consistent performers at both AFL and VFL levels.
Last year’s top AFL draft picks Jack Watts, who was picked up by Melbourne and West Coast’s Nicholas Naitanui are still waiting in the wings as far as their AFL debuts are concerned, but most observers believe it’s only a matter of time.
Carnival sponsors, NAB have indicated some of their ambassadors may possibly attend the event and will be available for autograph signings. Some of the NAB ambassadors include Nathan Buckley, Joel Selwood, Garry Lyon and Robert DiPierdomenico.
Entry to the carnival, which takes place during the school holidays, is free making it a fantastic family event.
Some of the stadium’s retail outlets will be available during the day and lunch time patrons will also be able to take advantage of the LiveWire dining area.
The action again will be televised live across Australia on FoxSports.
