Etihad Stadium Schedule
Friday 27 Feb 2009
Please be advised that the NRL match between Melbourne Storm and the St George Illawarra Dragons scheduled at Etihad Stadium on Friday 13 March 2009 has been re-located to Olympic Park.
This relocation will allow Etihad Stadium to be available for the NAB Cup Grand Final also on 13 March.
The movement of the NAB Cup Grand Final will avoid a scheduling clash
with the Sound Relief benefit concert, which is intended to raise money for the Victorian Government’s Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.
MSL Chief Executive Ian Collins AM said the Victorian Government made the request and the stadium was happy to oblige in a bid to maximise the fundraising effort.
“We were pleased to co-operate with Government, the AFL and Melbourne Storm to ensure the NAB Cup Grand Final does not go head-to-head with the Bushfire Appeal Concert,” Mr Collins said.
“While we are disappointed that we cannot host the Melbourne Storm NRL match, we fully understand the need to aid the Bushfire Appeal wherever possible.
“We are now looking forward to the NAB Cup Grand Final being played at Etihad Stadium,” he said.
Depending on results from this weekend's finals, either Essendon or Collingwood will play the winner of Carlton versus Geelong.
Essendon and Collingwood will play their semi final at Etihad Stadium in Friday 6 March, 2009, at Etihad Stadium at 7.40pm, while Carlton and Geelong will play-off for a spot in the Grand Final when they meet at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 7 March, 2009, at 7.10pm.
