Etihad Stadium to host Fulham
Monday 04 May 2009
Etihad Stadium has announced it will host a friendly between reigning Hyundai A-League champion, Melbourne Victory and English Premier League club, Fulham on 11 July, 2009 at 7.30pm.
Fulham is the oldest of London's first class clubs, dating back to 1879, and is home to Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and former Victory player Adrian Leijer - who was part of the Melbourne club's first championship in the 2006/07 season.
The announcement reinforces Etihad Stadium's commitment to providing Victorian sports fans with the best in international football.
It is not the first time Etihad Stadium has brought an international giant to the stadium to play Melbourne Victory. In May 2008 they played a friendly against Italian club, Juventus, in front of more than 43,000 fans.
The home side lost 4-1 but the crowd loved every minute.
Australian crowds will no doubt snap up the chance to see the nation's premier goal keeper in action as he warms up for another tilt at the FIFA World Cup. Both Schwarzer and Leijer are expected to play in the match as Fulham is bringing a full strength squad to Australia.
The match will kick-off at 7.30pm with gates opening at 6pm.
