ETIHAD STADIUM’S ARENA MODE
Australia’s newest and largest Arena Mode opened on January 5th 2013 at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.
Following feedback from Australia’s leading concert promoters, Etihad Stadium, with the support of Ticketmaster, developed the Arena Mode concert configuration to provide an alternative mid-sized venue in Melbourne. The new configuration will complement the Stadium's existing concert modes.
With a general admission capacity of up to 25,000 (up to 9,000 standing) and a fully reserved capacity of up to 21,300 (5,200 seated on arena), Etihad Stadium Arena Mode provides patrons with an exciting new indoor arena in the thriving city of Melbourne.
This newly designed innovation is created by installing 180 metre-wide acoustic drapes hung from the Stadium's closed roof creating a unique, spectacular and intimate arena mode. The field is protected using the venue's turf protection system which provides a huge floor space. With seating on all three levels it is the perfect space for indoor entertainment events. The Arena Mode is shorter than other major Australian Arenas, meaning that the distance from front of stage to the furthest seat is approximately 85 metres, significantly less than many arenas, even those with smaller capacities.
CEO Paul Sergeant says "with our partners Ticketmaster, we are continually looking to secure additional content and develop new and exciting opportunities. While we have a long tradition of holding stadium shows, our Arena Mode is being embraced by the music industry with our first event being launched by Mariah Carey’s Triumphant Tour in January. On March 5 and 6 Etihad Stadium Arena Mode underwent a dramatic transformation into a rock fortress when KISS, supported by Mötley Crüe and Thin Lizzy, put on the ultimate rock show for fans."
