Preview: St Kilda v Richmond
Wednesday 24 Jun 2009

VENUE & TIME: Etihad Stadium, Sunday 28 June, 4.40pm (AEST)
HEAD TO HEAD: Played: 170, St Kilda 66, Richmond 102, 2 draws
LAST TIME: St Kilda 17.8 (110) def Richmond 16.11 (107), Round 7, 2008 at Etihad Stadium

WALKING WOUNDED: Ominously for Richmond, the undefeated Saints have a full complement of senior players to choose from with Xavier Clarke (knee), David Armitage (shoulder) and Leigh Fisher (hamstring) the only notables on their injury list.
The Tigers will put a senior quartet including Nathan Brown (groin), Troy Simmonds (adductor), Kayne Pettifer (groin) and Matt White (hamstring) through their paces this week as they all push for senior selection. Matthew Richardson is still a long way off from fully overcoming his hamstring tendon injury.

FORM: What can be said about St Kilda that hasn't already been said? It has started the season with a club-record 12 consecutive victories and accumulated a whopping percentage of 173.6. Although chinks in the Saints' armour have been exposed in the past five rounds, the mid-season break might just be what they needed to recapture their devastating early-season form in the run home.
Richmond has found a bit of form recently, winning two of its past three matches - albeit against fellow cellar-dwellers Fremantle and West Coast - following a diabolical 1-8 start to the year.

WHO'S HOT: St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt is enjoying career-best form this year and has become the most damaging forward in the competition. The 26-year-old has averaged more than 17 touches and nine marks a game in 2009 and has booted 40 goals to be equal second in the Coleman Medal race. He is also fresh from a match-winning performance against Carlton that saw him rack up 17 disposals, 10 grabs and five majors.
Richard Tambling is finally starting to live up to the hype that surrounded him in the lead-up to the 2004 national draft. Tambling was best on ground in Richmond's win over the Eagles last round and has averaged just under 27 disposals in his past three outings.

WE THINK: Richmond showed promising signs in its past two victories against the Dockers and Eagles but sandwiched in between those two results is the best indicator to use when gauging the Tigers' chances against the Saints this week. And it's not looking good for Richmond. In Round 11, the boys from Punt Road came up against a heavyweight challenger to the title in the Western Bulldogs and copped a 68-point hammering. And if they thought competition was stiff that night, it will seem like a Swedish massage compared to what is in store for them when they meet the ladder-leading St Kilda. The Saints' midfield is far superior to Richmond's and, with regular supply to Riewoldt and Justin Koschitzke, have the potential to make Jade Rawlings seriously reconsider applying to get into the coaching caper on a full-time basis. St Kilda by 52 points.
