Socceroos to face Serbia at Etihad
Thursday 05 May 2011
The Qantas Socceroos will return to Etihad Stadium on Tuesday June 7 to play Serbia in an international friendly match.
The match will be the first time the two sides have met since the Socceroos defeated the world No. 16 side at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The Socceroos are currently ranked No. 20 in the FIFA World Rankings.
FFA CEO, Ben Buckley said Melbourne and Etihad Stadium was a great fit for the upcoming match.
"Melbourne football fans are arguably the most passionate in Australia and we are looking for a large crowd to bring a fantastic atmosphere to the match," Buckley said.
Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu added: "The visit by the Serbian national team will be a chance to celebrate the game's diversity in Australia, but more importantly witness a great contest between two proud football nations."
